"My Best Teacher Ever" Essay Contest
Weeklyreader.com invites students in grades 2–12 to enter its second annual
"My Best Teacher Ever" Essay Contest.
Students: Tell us why, in 300 words or less, your teacher (present or past) is the best teacher ever. The contest is open to all students enrolled in grades 2 through 12 in the 2009–2010 school year.
One winner will be chosen in each of two categories: Elementary (grade 2-6) and Secondary (grades 7-12). The two students who write winning essays each will win a $50 gift cheque and may have their essays published on WeeklyReader.com. The two teachers who submit winning essays each will win one free classroom subscription to the Weekly Reader magazine of their choice.
Entries must be postmarked or emailed to webcontest@weeklyreader.com on or before April 23, 2010.
Winners will be announced on May 4, 2010, Teacher Appreciation Day, on WeeklyReader.com.
Current Science Tale of a Quail Contest
Inspired by a remarkable quail named Robert, Current Science presents the Tail of a Quail contest. The top prize winner will receive a copy of the classic book, That Quail, Robert, plus a one-year subscription to Birds & Blooms. If you could add an amendment to the U.S. Constitution, what would it be? Why? How would it change life in the United States? Answers should not exceed 250 words. Winners for each magazine will receive a $50 gift certificate to Amazon.com and have their winning amendments published online. Two runners up for each group will receive $25 gift certificates. For each photo published in the magazine, the photographer receives $50 plus a T-shirt with the photo printed on the front.
